A BUMPER 5-1 win for Orkney away to a new look Halkirk sent the Island side to the top of the Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League on Saturday, thanks to five second half goals. Halkirk United had taken the lead in the early stages through Marc Gunn, before the visitors equalised shortly after the restart through Thorfinn Stout. Chris Hellewell gave his side the lead just after the hour mark before Liam Delday scored either side of a Stevie Cunningham goal to make it five. St Duthus recorded the only home win of the afternoon with all of the game's goals netted during the first half. Visitors Inverness Athletic took the lead when Phil MacDonald nodded home after just six minutes before the Saints equalised through Martin Dey. A lob from Liam Rostock with seven minutes of the first period remaining made it 2-1 to the Tain men, and that was enough for all three points to remain at the Links.
A trip South to Dalmore Park proved fruitful for Thurso as they recorded a comfortable 4-1 win over hosts Alness United. Michael Petrie scored in the eighth minute to put the Vikings ahead, before Conor Cormack extended their lead after 35 minutes. Petrie notched his second on the hour to make it 3-0 before Alness scored a consolation through Chris Graham with 16 minutes left. The action was rounded off with a fourth for Thurso seven minutes from time, Conor Trueman the marksman.
In Scottish Cup action, Golspie Sutherland were defeated 6-1 by Ayrshire side Glenafton Athletic at the latter's ground. Golspie took the lead on the quarter hour before Glenafton equalised. The Sutherland men did well to hold their hosts to a 1-1 half time score before five second half goals handed victory to the Loch Park side, with four in total from Chris Dallas.
